Alvarez Questions Wisdom Of Suggested Alternatives To Jail For Some Inmates « CBS Chicago

“Maybe they got picked up on a drug case this time, but they have a long history of violence; they have a long history of failing to appear in court, and having – as we call them – BFWs, which are bond forfeiture warrants. All that has to be taken into account.” Anita Alvarez.

She has a major point. This makes myself wonder. When I worked for the Chicago Police Department as a clerk in the "Central Booking Section", we were tasked with checking if any detained person had any outstanding warrants. If any did, they were held/locked-up. Could she be hinting, this isn't done anymore? Is there a staff in the prosecutors office ignoring such checks? Who's dropping the ball?

Once any individual is detained by police, a call is made towards the central booking section. It is the clerks responsibility to ensure the detained person has, or hasn't any outstanding warrants. Once this is completed, and the information is given, on the person detained has, or has not warrants, who's dropping the ball?
