So that the general public gets a better understanding of why these shootings are happening, the term "documented gang member" is now being employed by this newspaper. Smart call. Smart journalism.
Remember, police have a "list". They know who is gang affiliated. Sadly, it's unconstitutional for police to round them all up for 72 hours. If they do the "Stop and Frisk" of these known gang members, they would just stash their guns and drugs. Under the "Patriot Act" they can get more funding for cameras in neighborhoods, so they can track down the drive-by shooters.
Now that they are designated "documented gang members", let's hope journalist begin asking the smart question. When are you going to ask for more funding, and get those cameras in these neighborhoods? That's the smart call, and makes smart journalism.
