Residents Complain The City Has Forgotten Their Frozen Alley « CBS Chicago

Residents Complain The City Has Forgotten Their Frozen Alley « CBS Chicago

Here's an idea that should have been implemented decades ago. Since our ward representatives receive a budget from us good old taxpayers, why can't they set aside some of that funding and hire a team just for the alleys?

It's a win win. It's seasonal. It's fiscally smart. They could hire the highly unemployed youth for the project. All it would really take is a heavy duty snow thrower or two for each ward, and a team of shovel ready youth. It's stunning not one alderman thought of this.

I'm sure the alleys in Chicago isn't the only place this happens. This should be a state wide policy during the winter. I'm pretty sure all city, and village representatives get a budget for their respective offices. So why not do something smart, and cost effective for a change? If they happen to have vacant lots nearby, dump the plowed snow there. It will melt eventually. No vacant lots? Use the parks.

Get a couple of snow throwers for your wards, and hire the highly unemployed youth for clearing the alleys.
