Paranoia: Nerf gun game proves popular with teens out for the kill - chicagotribune.com
Talk about bored, and stupid. Things of this nature has to put law enforcement on alert.
One can already imagine a scenario of these not-too-bright clowns running around at night, or, as mentioned in the article, coming to someones' home and the occupant doesn't know them, or worse yet, startles them. I'm willing to bet somewhere, some place, one of these morons will get punched, and God forbid, accidentally killed by gunfire.
Kids, pick up a book, play online with the blue-tooth, but don't go around to peoples' homes, hide in vehicles, or any other bone-headed place you think of. It's always better for you to be safe, as opposed to sorry.

The 2005 reform failed to rein in costs, so state legislators are looking again at fixing workers' comp - chicagotribune.com
It must be nice sitting in a cushy office pontificating about workers' compensation without even asking the basic question of why are the States rates so high in the first place? Or better yet, if the author even bothered to remove that posterior, and go on the floor where the Real Work happens. Nine times out of ten, the author probably didn't even bother.
It is agreed that cost should be reigned in, and any corruption/fraud vigorously investigated, and prosecuted. But the least the author could do, is go into some of these warehouses and witness some of the unusual, and often dangerous practices some employers utilize. In other words, get out of the cushy, leather-sewn, swivel recliner and go to one of these "Distribution Centers", and for one day, and play "Beat The Clock" as most of these workers have to do.
Maybe then you will see how accidents happen. Just maybe.

U.S. companies hiring — but mostly overseas - Chicago Sun-Times
U.S. companies hiring — but mostly overseas - Chicago Sun-Times
You can thank the U.S. Chamber of Commerce for this.
What is it that these uncaring, super-rich want from the average working man and women? Do they really want to turn the United States into a feudal system of land barons, and reduce the average citizens into peasant status? What could they possibly think how this country would look, should they continue the shipping of jobs overseas? What will they do when the people of the oppressive governments they do business with revolt, and demand a decent living wage? We have given them tax cuts and they have spat in the face of Americans by hording, and hiring cheap labor. They will fight to the death any legislative attempt at comprehensive immigration reform. After-all, they are the ones hiring undocumented workers in this country just to save a few more pennies.
This country has transformed from a manufacturing powerhouse, into an obese consumer industry. We know, and see our infrastructure crumbling across this nation. But just the slight mention of a tax increase in order for us to repair this crumbling, we remove the jelly doughnut from our obese mouths and scream, no way. We are in a "Cake and Eat it Too" society, and this cannot, and should not ever be the case. The middle class, lower middle class, and the working poor have sacrificed enough. The State of Florida just elected for governor a man that had to pay millions in fines for bilking Medicare. Now he proposes those on the roster of the unemployed, to do community service in order for the continuance of receiving such funds. When you think about that scenario, it reminds me of the old Soviet Union where people would sweep the streets in order for that communist system could brag about having zero unemployment. Such a proposal coming from a Republican? A Republican accused, and fined for Fraud no less.
So while you are thanking the U.S. Camber of Commerce, just ask yourself what will this country look like without repairing our infrastructure, and being "Forced" to sweep streets?

Gov. Pat Quinn talks big-time borrowing while Illinois House mulls income tax increase options - chicagotribune.com
After reading this article, I'm still curious about where is all that money collected from the sale of Illinois Lottery Tickets?
Doesn't that money go to the "General Education Fund"? Or better still, what fund does it go too? On another note. In the City of Chicago, we still haven't heard where that missing "TIF" money is. Now we have a lottery system that has been in-place for years, and yet we hear, or see, so little on where those funds are going.
It really makes a person wonder about the lottery being the stop-gap for budget problems (Remember that lie they told us?), that for some strange reason, never materialized. So any rational thinking person would ponder, why our State is going into debt, when we have all this revenue streaming in from the Illinois Lottery.
So in a nutshell, where's that lottery money going?

That old code comes to mind here. "Don't Get High On your Own Supply". This guy is obviously a candidate for the Dumber Then A Bag Of Hammers Award.
By all means I'm no fan of drugs of this toxic nature. They should be viewed as extremely dangerous, and accompanied with longer prison sentences. Well, this dummy should enjoy a sobering time behind bars for hopefully five to ten years.

Emanuel in, Meeks out as Chicago mayor race gets reshaped - chicagotribune.com
Ha! Told ya so. Meeks had to drop out because he suffered from that horrendous disease of "Insert Foot In Mouth Syndrome". The poor guy must have contracted it from Palin, Limbaugh, and Beck.
Anyway, it's good that the field is beginning to narrow of sorts. I'm hoping for some very interesting debates next month. I do hope they find a cure for Meeks syndrome, and hope other politicians immunize themselves from it. But we all know that will never happen as long as FOX keeps its current roster of dim-bulbs on air.
Anyway, Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and may you all have a blessed, and prosperous New Year.

FCC chairman seeks conditions on Comcast, NBC deal - Chicago Sun-Times
FCC chairman seeks conditions on Comcast, NBC deal - Chicago Sun-Times
OK, I must have fallen asleep here? The only condition this chairman has to set is the "Sherman Anti-Trust Act of 1890".
That old saying of "History repeating Itself", applies here. Here we find ourselves as a country sneaking back in time, creating "Monopolies" again. You can pretty much take it to the bank that there will be "Price-Fixing" going on once this unsavory deal goes through. How do I know? Like the average citizen, I'm a consumer, and companies just love gouging us. Our crummy politicians basically repealed The "Glass-Steagall Act of 1933". Look what happened to this country. Banks went wild on greed, and nearly sent this country into the abyss. Have the banks been held to account? No. What are they doing still to this day? Giving themselves more bonuses, and more golden toilets. Who suffers? We do.
Yet we sit here and applaud our politicians for giving people, that don't need a tax cut, a tax cut. They get two more years of gravy-training the country, while the very people they laid-off, get only 13 months of unemployment benefits, by the way, that they (The People), paid into for supporting their families.
So now here we have Comcast waiting in the wings for the big "How much can we screw the people over with this deal mindset". The Sherman Anti-Trust Act of 1890 is in dire distress when this GOP led congress reconvenes next year. It will no doubt be centered in their cross-hairs, because it is a threat to big companies "Bottom-Line". The repealing of Glass-Steagall was a big mistake. Tampering, or attempting to "SLIP" around the Sherman Act will be even more dangerous for consumers.
With that said, my only call for our political representatives is simple. Re-instate the Glass-Steagall Act, and don't even think about "Modifying", or repealing The Sherman Act. If they do voters, prepare for more of the same. Yes, more job losses, more companies fleeing overseas to exploit the people there, and corporations getting bigger, and bigger. Politicians think we are stupid. Let us show them how very wrong they are.

Chicago’s gang crime spreading to the suburbs - Chicago Sun-Times
Chicago’s gang crime spreading to the suburbs - Chicago Sun-Times
This really isn't anything new. As soon as law enforcement officials turn up the heat, gangs will flee to less patrolled areas.
With the dismantling of the housing projects in the city, gang members, like law abiding citizens must find other housing. The sad part, is that the gang members are just to dumb to turn their lives around. They know nothing but what the street has taught them, because they have completely given up on educational opportunities.
Suburban law enforcement officials are very much indeed aware of this problem. The only solution they must seek, from an economical standpoint, is an increase in local taxes to enable the hiring of more police. If residents insist on the stubborn behavior of the tea bag mantra of "No New Taxes", they will reap what they sow. They cannot have that cake, and eat it also. A sacrifice is called for with this problem.
As a lesson in history will teach us about the migration of the California gangs that have relocated to areas like Iowa, and other mid-western states, law enforcement resources became over-strained until they came to their senses and beefed-up personnel in such troubled areas.
Again, this trend isn't new. It will keep on happening when the heat is on. So prepare for the influx, and always plan ahead.

Damn it, damn it, damn it!
Will you lazy politicians go ahead and legalize this plant!
For every bust of this magnitude, there is another warehouse replacing it. The Bogus "War on Drugs" is a complete failure. What, two days ago they bust a family out in the suburbs right? Now this. Come on, quit wasting taxpayer money and legalize this stuff. Are your collective brains so short of memory that you have completely forgotten what happened during "Prohibition"? Well let me remind you "PRUDES" what went down. People still drank. It didn't work then, and this stupid war isn't working now.
Take the money you clowns can get from legalizing this plant, and do something positive for your cities, towns, and suburbs. You know, stuff like hiring teachers, police, fire, and emt's? Oh, how about building decent schools, or who knows, fix the roads. Once again we are talking BILLIONS in State revenue should you decide to get pro-active and legalize this plant.
Come on politicians. WTF! Rocket scientist isn't a requirement with this no-brain-er.

Meeks says minority contracts should only go to blacks - Chicago Sun-Times
Back tracking or not, that still is, and was the dumbest thing for this bigot to say.
Yes folks he's a bigot. Bigots use narrow-minded thought processes. Don't believe me? Why would he back track and say "only White women"? Last time I checked, they (women period) have been getting screwed over (no pun intended) throughout time itself. Now this complete Dip wants to discriminate against one particular group of women.
As for full disclosure, I have no intentions of voting for this particular meat-head in the first place. The last thing I need is for a person of the church running for Public Office, shoving his or her religious beliefs in my face. And you can bet, that will be exactly what he will do. What I'm looking for in this mayoral race is a candidate that will fix our infrastructure, schools, police, fire, employment, and environment. A candidate that will get our bridge, and parking meters back. A candidate that will go down to Springfield and demand a crackdown on crime from the streets, to the corporate level. In other words, I'm looking for a candidate that will work hard for pushing Fairness, not not one that selectively single out groups base on race, creed, color, gender, or orientation.
Yes folks, that was a bigot speaking. He'll never get my vote.

As far as I'm concerned, just look at the "Quality" of the food we consume these days. Though no official will admit it, our food supply has been "adjusted". All a researcher has to do is follow the rise in diabetes cases over the last fifty (50) years.
High Fructose Corn Syrup My Ass! Mechanically Separated Meat? Are you kidding me? And who can ever forget good old yellow. and red dye #5, 6, 7, 8, well you get the picture.

Chico: I’ll keep children’s museum out of Grant Park - Chicago Sun-Times
I never understood why this current mayor wanted to move this museum in the park in the first place. But then it dawned on me, money.
That is the entire root of the motivational factor behind this politician. He destroyed Miegs Field. He sold our bridge. He sold our parking meters. He'd sell our police, fire, and emt's to the highest bidder if he could get away with it.
Boy I can't wait till this guy is long gone.

I'm letting all of you know here and now, that this process King Daley has in-place is Unconstitutional.
There is nothing "reasonable" about the additional "fees" King Daley has imposed upon the citizens of this city. It is nothing more then gouging the people of money. These are not fees, but additional taxes on the people so he can, and will pad his little campaign war chest before he skips town. What sense does it make to have citizens travel into the suburbs for "training classes", finding "certified instructors", and spend additional funds just to meet his edict?
I do so hope that someone out there is challenging this unconstitutional fiasco this money-grubbing clown has stuck its citizens with. This guy shows nothing but utter contempt for the people he swore to serve. The same applies to his lock-step alder-manic council that he, not us, employed. That "fee" is nothing more then an additional tax and must be ruled unconstitutional because it is clearly unreasonable, given that there are no certified instructors, and training facilities within the city limits.
This permit process is expensive, unreasonable, and absolutely unconstitutional.

Health care account scammer bought Bentley's, faces prison - Chicago Sun-Times
Wow! Just Wow is all anyone can say about the level of greed some people will do.
But this really isn't all that shocking. This type of behavior has gone on for centuries. Of those amongst us that remain sane, we shake, and scratch our collective heads in disgust, and disbelief. You can't take it with you. So the elephant in the room will always be the proverbial ultimate question. WHY?
What did it prove? Well, besides the fact that you are a greedy imbecile. And when you really think about it, the punishment comes nowhere near close to the crime. A rip-off of this magnitude deserves more time in prison then a mere 10-20 years. There must be more indictments coming down the road with this guy? That "plea deal" better produce more criminals, and longer prison time.
A wise man once said "The love/lust of money, is the root of all evil."

Oh well, we all should have saw this coming.
I really think someone needs to inform this guy he isn't Jesus Christ, so stop turning the other cheek. We all get it. The Republican party stands for nothing more then Hate, Greed, and Major Stupidity. That is what we fight against. We just don't give in to such evil.
It's your turn Mr. President, to say NO. Say no to anything these evil creeps come up with. You already know it will never benefit the middle class, or the poor. Put the gloves on sir, and stop this insanity.

Let me see if i got this right. The penalty is a "misdemeanor with a one grand fine for each forged signature" right?
No wonder they are doing it. Go back and change the law. It should be a felony crime for forging people's signatures, and a ten thousand dollar fine. Time for all of us to get serious about breaking the law. People that do break it, will never learn a thing with time-outs in the corner, or slaps on the wrist.

I have to side with the Chicago Police on this matter. It is, in fact, a County facility.
Citizen of Chicago, and Cook County, if taxes have to be raised for a fully staffed police, and sheriff's department, that is a Sacrifice we all have to make. It's a common sense issue. If you don't want to pay for police, well, good luck. Don't complain. We ask our soldiers to sacrifice. We ask our law enforcement officials for the same. But when it comes to paying for such service, you refuse. You would rather go buy something. Stop this insanity, Step up, stop crying about crime and make the necessary sacrifice we all must undertake. This isn't a political, nor partisan issue.
Whenever you read about some BULLSHIT like this, it's time for action.

From the Net So Don't Quote Me
Maria Garriga:
A two-hour animal rights demonstration on the Green Monday sparked outrage instead of sympathy from the public.
"This is the most racist thing I've ever seen on the Green. How dare you," roared Philip Goldson, 43, of New Haven at the protest organizers at Church and Chapel streets.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, a national animal rights group, posted giant photographs of people, mostly black Americans, being tortured, sold and killed, next to photographs of animals, including cattle and sheep, being tortured, sold and killed.
"I think it is an apt comparison," said Josh Warchol, 26, of Wallingford, president of the Southern Connecticut Vegetarian Society, which is aligned with PETA.
PETA officials said they had hoped to generate dialogue with the shocking photographs.
"We realize these images are hurtful. It's hard for me to imagine the hurt the animals go through. We should be treating animals according to their own best interests, not to the best interests of people," said Dawn Carr, PETA's director of special projects.
PETA wants people to stop eating animals, stop using them for clothing, stop forcing animals to entertain people (as in a circus) and stop animal experimentation. Carr said she doesn't want animals sold or treated as property either.
The controversial display, which is on a national tour, is intended to drive home PETA's point.
However, critics said the organization's demonstration backfired.
One man demanded that the NAACP get involved immediately. Five minutes later, Scot X. Esdaile, president of the state and Greater New Haven chapters of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, arrived at the scene, surveyed the photos and blasted the organizers.
"Once again, black people are being pimped. You used us. You have used us enough," Esdaile said. "Take it down immediately." "I am a black man! I can't compare the suffering of these black human beings to the suffering of this cow," said Michael Perkins, 47, of New Haven. He stood in front of a photo of butchered livestock hung next to the photo of two lynched black men dangling before a white mob.
"You can't compare me to a freaking cow," shouted John Darryl Thompson, 46, of New Haven, inches from Carr's face. "We don't care about PETA. You are playing a dangerous game."
Paul Tomaselli, 46, of North Branford took exception to an exhibit that included a photo of a black man being beaten to the ground by a white man with a stick while a white mob gathers.
Next to that photo was one of a man chasing a seal across the snow with a club. "I think he's right," said Tomaselli, who is white, in support of Thompson. "To compare people to animals is an unfairness to people."
The display, "Are Animals the New Slaves?" is on a 10-week, 42-city tour that started in early July. Today's stop: Scranton, Pa., then on to Baltimore and Washington, D.C.
"New Haven is important because of the Amistad. This is a place where slaves were brought. What happened here was very important for abolition. The next great liberation movement is animal liberation," Carr said.
However, the Anti-Defamation League, a national civil rights organization, has publicly condemned PETA's use of photos comparing human suffering in the Holocaust to animal suffering today; PETA apologized in May for the hurt it caused but stood by the comparisons.
That point of disagreement became a flashpoint in New Haven. "This is the most hostile audience we've had," said PETA volunteer Ben Godwin. At one point, police hovered at the edge of the Green, across from the demonstration.
Eight of the 12 banners compared the suffering of black Americans to the suffering of cattle, sheep, an elephant, a seal and a rooster. Other banners showed Native Americans exiled from their homes, children in a factory and men in a counter-demonstration against women's rights.
A photo showing a concentration camp inmate with a number tattooed across his emaciated chest was juxtaposed against a shot of a monkey in a laboratory with a number branded across its chest.

Ill. House narrowly rejects legalizing medicinal marijuana :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: Politics
Who needs to go on a rant? There is only one thing for voters to do in this repugnant situation. Vote these slow-witted dinosaur's out of office.
Have they, no strike that. They have forgotten that we live in the "Information Age". With just the click of a mouse, we can research who the responsible party is for "Banning, and Making Illegal" marijuana in the first place. Yet here we have this dim-witted fossil coming up with the most "Lamest" of excuses.
Check this out: "This concept goes well beyond medical use, medical treatment," said Rep. David Reis (R-Willow Hill). "This is about the legalization of marijuana. I mean, most of the medical treatments that have come about have come about in the last 50 years. Why wasn't this legalized a long time ago? We have the drugs today. We have the ability to do this. But we're sending the wrong message to our children."
What a clueless Boob. 1936 David is when they (Congress), put the smack-down on marijuana. Now do a little math. 1936, to 2010. What do you come up with? If you still come up with "50 years", you sir, do not deserve to be in office.
Voters, do yourself a favor. Vote these dim-witted dinosaur's out of office. They don't give a damn about children, and that should be your clue there. Whenever they say "Think of the Children". They are lying. Need more proof? Remember 1994? School Lunch Program ring a bell? Need More? Unpaid for tax cuts for the wealthy ring a bell?
Time to vote out the fossils.

Blacks debate ban on menthol cigarettes - chicagotribune.com
Wow! Good intentions bring about bad outcomes in this article.
We are talking the proverbial "Double Edged Sword" here. I'm going to agree with those opposed to such a ban because of the eventual fallout that will, I say again, will ensue. If there is any doubt about the argument against such a ban, all you have to do is read the article, especially the part on lost revenues cities, and states will lose, and the potential criminal underground market that will emerge.
This excerpt and quote pretty much sums it up:
But banning menthol cigarettes, the company said, would force 30 percent of the cigarette market to go underground and deal a blow to state and federal governments, which would lose $40 billion in excise taxes and settlement fees collected each year from the sale of cigarettes.
"A ban of menthol would not have the consequence of improving public health," said Lorillard spokesman Gregg Perry. "In fact … a ban on menthol cigarettes would fuel an underground criminal enterprise and lead to the illegal sale of more dangerous cigarettes than those now being sold by regulated companies."
Yep, good intentions will surely bring about a bad outcome here.

In my humble opinion, I would believe he would be overwhelmed if he won election to such a position. Now don't get me wrong, the man is an accomplished politician. BUT, of those accomplishments, nothing really stands out. I think he was blind-sided when Blago, pick him. He hasn't lead on any legislation while appointed. He'll have to inform the voters how he will get our Parking Meters back, and the missing TIF money, which I find funny no one has mentioned that subject since it was reported missing. Maybe the guy renting Rahm's old crib might know what happened to that missing money? After-all, he is a developer.

Here's a suggestion for you people there. Look at the way they do it in Israel. But we all know you will just resist anything that has "Common Sense" applied to it. Everything you do, or touch, is always influenced with the "Bottom Line" in this country. Well the bottom line didn't work so well on 9/11 did it? Now, instead of training people to follow the Israeli model, you chose to go for the nut sack. You would be highly surprised at people's reaction when you JUST ASK THEM QUESTIONS! After-all, like the security consultant said (paraphrasing here), "I'm not flying, you are". Why are you wasting money on a machine that doesn't work?

Interesting article that can seem misleading. When you think about it, that big roundup local, and federal law enforcement did a couple of days ago, might fudge those numbers.
But, as the article states, there are no numbers from state and federal prisons for all of us to look at. Another thing not noted, is the amount of people on "House Arrest", which in my opinion is a big crock, and should be abolished. "Can't do the time, Don't do the crime". Remember that?

They warned you what was going to come down, but your belligerent asses, to this very day, doesn't believe, SHIT STINKS! Don't blame it on "The Man", it was your dumb ass that dropped out of school.
This is only the beginning dumb-asses. Since you can't think beyond a nano-second, let me help you. Someone has to fill the NEW Prison. Get off the streets, get back in school, and get a job. If you can't do that simple task, I guess, you will never get it.

Voters approve Arizona medical marijuana measure :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: Nation
Some states get it, some states just don't. I'm talking to you California.
Yes you California could have led the way, and got rid of the most ridiculous law since the Salem Witch hunts. When are we as a people going to learn to stop listening to fake moral leaders? You know who I'm talking about. If you don't, well that list will include religious zealots, politicians, greedy heads of corporations, and the infamous drug suppliers. Anyone that tells you they are against legalizing marijuana (while holding a drink in their hands), is full of it. Hell even our drinking water can be set on fire in some states. I will always advocate for the complete removal of marijuana from the law books. Its historical record of medicinal value cannot be discounted.
Never forget, it was listed as illegal because some rich people viewed it as a threat to their "Bottom Line". Never forget, we are talking millions, perhaps billions of dollars in extra state revenue. I urge employers, should it ever becomes legalized, to use the same standards at the workplace that you have for booze. Doing such will shoot down any false arguments. You can't come to work drunk, so don't even think about coming there high either.
You dropped the ball California, pick it up and run with it.

Look buddy it's hard to ask us, the taxpayer for supporting this idea when the state is in such dire financial straits.
And then again, we look at the salaries players make, ticket prices. and FOX strong-arming cable, and satellite companies for more nickles and dimes. So in other words, this is a battle that truly is UN-winnable. The best advice I can give you is this. Pay for it yourself. Hell it's your ballpark anyway, and besides, you will just up ticket prices after you pay out more millions for mediocre ball players.
There, problem solved. You are most welcome.

Question. Are we really getting that dumber as a Nation?
In this instance, you have parents "Forcing" their kids into wearing these shirts. Forcing you question? Why yes, they did. It's the parents that are forcing their own hate and prejudice on their children. Why else would they come too school wearing a shirt letting the entire planet know they hate people that are different from them? The shirt should have read, "Ignorant Pride". These kids are there to get an education, not a "dumbification" (Top That Colbert).
No sane person cares about your sexuality, straight, or gay. Live your life, and stay the fuck out of others. After-all, they are not hurting you. You on the other hand, are letting sane people know how sick, and nosey you are.

In all honesty, I like Braun's idea better. That deal stunk into the universe. It was like being lied into a war. And most importantly, it is, and was illegal by the way it was put together.
How many "Public Hearings" were held? Why didn't the people get an opportunity to vote on this, after-all, it was our money? If the next Mayor wants to get the financial house in-order, here's a great suggestion. Pay-Cuts. Yes, pay-cuts for the Mayor, city council, school board, transportation, streets and sanitation, water reclamation, revenue, police, and fire chiefs. All of these department heads do not require such salaries as they continue gutting the people that do the REAL work.
Get our meters back, and for once Sacrifice, and cut those department heads pay.

I'm not a fan of this garbage, but the least our elected officials can do, is at the very least look at the possibility of legalization of marijuana.
The bottom line here is that people will continue to get high, on way or the other. We have lost the "War on Drugs". That fight has turned into nothing more then a money pit. It is time for all of us to wake up and have a very serious discussion about this problem.

I normally stay away from topics such as this, unless I'm taking a shot at those "Band-Wagon" Sox/Sucks fans I know. Nevertheless, more then heads should roll after that big giveaway the Bears did two weeks ago.
I sat there in total stunned disbelief as I watched The Bears give that game away. In true conspiratorial reasoning, I deduced the owners of the bears must have owed the Mob some money, henceforth the big giveaway. It truly raised my blood pressure, and as a Black male, that isn't a good thing for us.
The bottom line folks, if they lose this game, I'm going back to Madden 11, create a new franchise, and send the Bears off into oblivion.
Heads must roll from the general manager on down.

In the real world, you would have to be pretty dumb to drink something this toxic, knowing full well it isn't healthy for your. You might as well get up in the morning, have a shot of Jack, and coffee. See how long you keep a job doing that. Yet sadly, here we have the old greed merchants "Targeting" the youth, once again, with another mind-altering product. And you "Prudes" still have a problem with legalizing Marijuana?
Just look back at history, and what happened when they banned booze. Just look at Mexico, and all the violence happening there. Legalize Marijuana, regulate it, put in place the same workplace rules you have for booze, and tax this weed just like you do tobacco. I cannot stress enough the billions of dollars in State, and City revenues that will flow in.
Look people, you don't have to be a rocket scientist for figuring this out. The only ones against this are the ones that view this as a threat to the money they are making. Remember, the "Lumber, and Newspaper Industry" led the push for criminalizing Marijuana back in the 1930's. Don't let any "Special Interest" keep it going.

Recruits rail at police department's age limit :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: City Hall
Sometimes you just have to wonder about the educational levels of some of the people that work for this city.
Here we have a military system that take 18 year old kids, and turn them into outstanding citizens when they leave the service. Our police department, prior to this lame ass idea, required, and still do, that applicants have a minimum of 60 semester hours under their belt before applying. Now some nitwit came up with this mega-stupid idea of, hey! let's raise the age requirement, because we are already short of personnel.
What school of "Higher Education" did this nitwit attend? Personally, I have an Associates Degree, and even I know that was very dumb, and makes no sense. A few decades ago all one needed was a High School Diploma for a man or woman to become a law enforcement officer. Then, some genius came along and raised the bar to the 60 credit hours, semesters, whatever it is. On a personal note; I think that was done to "Exclude" certain people, if you know what I mean. Now they want to raise the age.
I know you are "Lame-Ducking" it Mayor, but you have to torpedo this insanity. Let's stop screwing people around that want to do the right thing. They want "To Serve and Protect". Let them. At least they have the brains, and the backbone your so-called leadership isn't showing.

You Didn't Get Mad
Found on the net, and really makes a lot of sense:
Now you want to get mad?
After The 8 Years Of The Bush/Cheney Disaster, Now You Get Mad? Now You want to
"Take the Country Back?!!"
You didn't get mad when the Supreme Court stopped a legal recount and appointed
a President.
You didn't get mad when Cheney allowed Energy company officials to dictate
Energy policy and push us to invade
Iraq ..
You didn't get mad when a covert CIA operative got outed.
You didn't get mad when the Patriot Act got passed.
You didn't get mad when we illegally invaded a country that posed no threat to
us.
You didn't get mad when we spent over 800 billion (and counting) on said illegal
war.
You didn't get mad when Bush borrowed more money from foreign sources than the
previous 42 Presidents combined.
You didn't get mad when over 10 billion dollars in cash just disappeared in
Iraq.
You didn't get mad when you found out we were torturing people.
You didn't get mad when Bush embraced trade and outsourcing policies that
shipped 6 million American jobs out
of the country.
You didn't get mad when
the government was illegally wiretapping Americans.
You didn't get mad when we didn't catch Bin Laden. You didn't get mad when Bush
rang up 10 trillion dollars in combined
budget and current account deficits.
You didn't get mad when you saw the horrible conditions at Walter Reed.
You didn't get mad when we let a major US city,
New Orleans , drown.
You didn't get mad when we gave people who had more money than they could spend,
the filthy rich, over a trillion dollars in tax breaks.
You didn't get mad with the worst 8 years of job creations in several decades.
You didn't get mad when over 200,000 US Citizens lost their lives because they
had no health insurance.
You didn't get mad when lack of oversight and regulations from the Bush
Administration caused US Citizens to lose 12 trillion dollars in
investments,
retirement, and home values.
You finally got mad when a Barack Obama was elected President and decided that
people in America deserved the right to see a doctor if they are sick.
Yes, illegal wars, lies, corruption,
torture, job losses by the millions,
stealing your tax dollars to make the rich richer, and the worst economic
disaster since 1929 are all okay with you, but helping fellow Americans who are
sick...
Oh, No Way!

"i hope everyone of you American hating A-holes are thrown in prison for cheating our country and trying to assure socialism.GO TO HELL."
"I see you're all into fraud. Why do you want to change Texas? You want it to be like a third-world nation? Texas is great - and you want to change it into a third world state. No thank you. Your fraud won't work. You were caught red handed. Live with it. We know all about it."
"Citizen's from all over Texas will be coming to Houston to watch you fraudulent Marxist pigs. Be forewarned, you will be watched at every turn, and your corrupt Marxist organization will be targeted!"
"You liberal scumbags should be hung by the neck in public ! We are on to your voter fraud. Keep it up you MOTHER FUCKERS and you will soon be put down for a long dirt nap! Your nothing but a bunch of white guilt ridden assholes, NIGGERS and greasy Mexican spics! The WAR is coming and we are going to dispose of each and every one of you while we take OUR (White) nation back."
And lest we think this is just some unaffiliated cranks:
King Street Patriots leader Catherine Engelbrecht even went as far to as to accuse the group of being the headquarters of the New Black Panther Party.
The good news is that the Tea partiers don't have a racist bone in their bodies. Just ask them They'll tell you so. (It's just the "bad ones" they don't like.)

The good news is that the Tea partiers don't have a racist bone in their bodies. Just ask them They'll tell you so. (It's just the "bad ones" they don't like.)

We've achieved an historic victory for America with President Obama and Vice President Biden. Let's see to it that we keep this going for years to come. Stay with us, the work to take America back from the cons has just begun.

Now one would expect such a survey showing such a disparity. If it doesn't happen to one race in particular, naturally one would be in such denial.
The part that really kills me is that those that don't see it, are just oblivious to the facts. Look at the billboards popping up across the country. Look at those signs, and the people carrying them that portray the first African-American President as Hitler, a witch doctor, and that rag paper in New York, as an ape. Listen to zealot political hacks calling for a return to "Jim Crow" laws, requiring citizens to take a test before voting. Listen to the crowd cheer when he said it.
For those that deny racism, especially in the news media, what will it take for you to finally open your eyes, and call it as it really is going down. Turn to that propaganda show and listen as they bash Muslims, Blacks, and Hispanics at will, with no remorse whatsoever. One of those personalities, if you wish to make the leap, could be blamed for the death of a doctor. It is totally irresponsible to come on television night, after night, and call a doctor a "Baby Killer". There are mentally disturbed people out there, that will take matters into their own hands. Remember the other one that wanted to shoot up that organization on the West Coast? And if anyone can, please tell me how two people standing in front of a polling place, calling themselves the "New Black Panther Party", constitute a threat? Two people! But let that other station tell you different, one would think they are all over the country. In truth, they are not. It was just two people.
On the other side of the coin, we have here, a guy running for the Senate, and was caught on tape discussing sending a squad of goons into Black communities on election day. One of those people just happen to be what they call a "Birther". That's one of those skipped their med's people that for some reason think this President wasn't born here. Imagine that. I guess his parents didn't plan on his birth announcement being published in the local newspaper back then. Or the fact that his birth certificate is no different from mine or yours. The only exception is the State Seal.
So since you don't see racism, why do you deny he was born here? Why do you portray him as an ape, or witch doctor? Why do some of you advocate for a return to Jim Crow? Why do you cheer when you hear such things? Why do you bash decent Americans just because they choose one religion over another? Why do you continue to spread lies about minorities? Why don't you just admit, you hate your own kind? I've seen you in action against your own. And buddy, it ain't pretty. So we already know that your never going to be fond of us. You can't even stand your own. Don't believe me? Well, let me ask you this. When have you improved the living conditions in Appalachia? And why are more of you on welfare?
Stop the hate, and work with us for making this country greater then all of us could ever imagine.

The Black vote? Hell, the minority vote period. Brady knows he doesn't give a rat's ass about the Minority, and Women's vote. All one has to do is look at his voting record down state.
And as for "Wal Mart Stores" in the city, Brady should know better, that's King Daley's turf, and no Governor tells the King what to do. Brady is nothing more then a shill for big business. If you think things are bad now, go right ahead and elect this "Gas the Dogs", the hell with women, and minority votes politician. Be warned senior citizens. This man will gut "Social Services". Be warned Ladies. This man will attempt to keep you in the kitchen barefoot, and naked. Be warned Minority voters of color. This man will do everything possible at making "Economic Slavery" a reality. All you have to do is just look at his voting record down state.
What was those catchy phrase's they love using? Oh yeah, "Free Market" and "Privatization". That's "Code" for Fuck the Middle Class, Lower Middle Class, Women, and The Poor. Remember how they laughed at you at the Republican National Convention? They called all of us "Community Organizers".
Get Out and Vote! I did.

Ladies and Gentleman, this article in short, is about a new dynamic in "Class Warfare".
The elephant in the room is why the "Least Crime Ridden Neighborhood" has the "Most" officers? It's just a simple answer of Black, Brown, and White. It's always been that way. The facts are in the numbers via personnel at such districts. So kudos Superintendent for stunning these oblivious alderman for telling the truth.
On another note, I do like the idea of an "auxiliary police force" consisting of retired officers. Maybe they should consider using a few military veterans in such a plan also. Sadly, such an idea will chaff the unions buttocks, and they will do everything within their power at resistance of such a deal being struck. I can hear the jokes now. People will call them Wal Mart Cops because of lower pay, while doing the same dangerous job. If you look at the other side of this coin, it could also be interpreted as the beginning of "private contractors" slinking into the city. Blackwater, oops, I meant Xe are probably rubbing its slimy hands together as we speak.
All in all, three decades is a long time for doing the right thing. Let's get together, figure out something practical, and not get into a class warfare thing okay?

I can understand the fact you want to manage a Major League team some day, but damn dude, your going to have to show a little more discipline then that little storm off display. Anyway, how can you expect any team to follow your brand of leadership, when you can't even display any?
What a Titty Baby.

First off, please forgive me in advance because of certain linguistically brutal words.
With that said, this is the kind of bullshit that pisses me off. To those at the Board of Education. Your job is to help these kids LEARN. To the parents. Your job is to make sure the kids are LEARNING. So parents, when you see, hear, or read about some shit like this being okay-ed by the people WE PAY, scream your lungs off. This is unacceptable bullshit. You people at the Board of Education better take a huge pay cut before you even think about sending kids out into the world with half a brain.
This is like throwing up a BIG WHITE FLAG on our kids. Now I know there are some very good teachers out and about, that agree 100% with my sentiments. This is nothing more then flat out cheating children, and young people of a decent education. No parent on the face of this earth should stand for bullshit of this nature.
I call on all teachers, and parents to demand that no "Suit" at the Board of Education receive any pay increase for the next TEN YEARS until they get serious about educating the children. As a matter of fact, they should also demand a serious pay-cut for these people until they get "Test Scores" up to acceptable levels. Especially with this bullshit "oh fuck it, let them slide with this test mentality".

Cops: Codeine pills in store's candy jar :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: Chicago Crime
I'll bet you they will find even more illegal shenanigans going on at these "so-called" stores scattered throughout the city.
All the officers checking out these places really need to do, is take note of the people standing out in front of such places. The residents near such dives, know some of these clowns cut corners by selling "loose cigarettes", even too minors. So it comes as no shock that dope is also being peddled at such places. Having a big jar in plain view just goes to show the contempt they have for the neighborhood they reside in. No doubt children frequent such places, especially after getting out of school. Parents should be furious, and not allow that, and other places to re-open.
Hopefully law enforcement will dig deeper, and investigate how they came about acquiring such a large quantity of these dangerous pills, and bust the medical people responsible for selling them.

Something We Know Is Happening
When Racism Masquerades as Something Else - By Carlos Dews
Don't let the virulent hatred of Obama's presidency - veiled in "policy differences" - fool you.
Just ask someone raised around bigotry. Carlos Dews is an author, a professor of English literature, and chairman of the
Department of English Language and Literature at John Cabot University in Rome
‘'The nigger show."
I first heard this expression used to describe the Obama administration during a visit to my hometown in East Texas during the early summer of 2009. I understood what the epithet meant: Our minds are made up, the president lacks legitimacy, and there is nothing he can do that we will support. I was not surprised to hear such a phrase.
I grew up in the 1960s during the ragged end of the Jim Crow era, where many of the books in my school library were stamped Colored School , meaning they had been brought to the white school when the town was forced to integrate the public school system. I recall my parents had instructed me, before my first day of elementary school, not to sit in a chair where a black child had sat. And I remember my sister joked that her yearbook, when it appeared at the end of her first year of integrated high school, was in "black and white."
The outward signs of racism of my home state have now disappeared, but racial hatred remains. My father and his friends still use the word nigger to refer to all black people, and the people of my hometown don't hesitate to spout their racist rhetoric to my face, assuming I agree with them. I hold my tongue for the sake of having continued access to this kind of truth. I learned long ago how not to accept the hatred I was being taught and how to survive not having done so. More recently, I realized that I also learned another lesson: how to recognize racism when it masquerades as something else.
More than 40 years after my first experiences with racism, I am thousands of miles away in Rome , but surrounded by ghosts. Last year, I received a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts for a community program called the Big Read, which sponsors activities to encourage communities to come together to read and discuss a single book. I chose Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird, in part because I thought that some of the most salient issues in the novel - racism, classism, xenophobia, the Jim Crow era - were perhaps relevant to an increasingly diverse, contemporary Italy.
That there is racism in Italy is obvious to anyone who pays attention to current affairs. In fact, during the first week of the Big Read Rome, a story in one of Italy's national newspapers detailed the experience of a Nigerian woman being called sporca nera (essentially, dirty nigger) by two women she asked to stop smoking on a Roman bus.
But I never imagined that consideration of the novel would prove so relevant to a country that had just elected its first black president. Ironically, until the election of Barack Obama, my discussions of racism in the United States seemed historical. I felt that with the passage of the civil rights legislation of the mid-1960s, the country had turned a corner, that the slow evaporation of overt racism was perhaps inevitable. Now, my personal experience of Southern racism feels current and all too familiar. A news story about the Big Read that appeared in La Repubblica on Sept.. 20 (unaware that my grant was awarded during the Bush administration), presciently brought Rome , Obama, To Kill a Mockingbird, and racism together in its headline: "Obama brings antiracist book to Rome ."
Jimmy Carter was lambasted for having recently explained that the vehemence with which many Americans resist Obama's presidency is an expression of racism. Carter was accused of fanning the flames of racial misunderstanding by labeling as "racist" what on the surface could be perceived as legitimate policy differences. Like Carter, as a white Southern man, I can see beyond the seemingly legitimate rhetoric to discern what is festering behind much of the opposition to Obama and to his administration's policy initiatives. I also have access, via the racist world from which I came, direct confirmation of the racial hatred toward Obama.
The veiled racism I sense in the United States today is couched, in public discourse at least, in terms that allow for plausible deniability of racist intent. And those who resist any policy initiative from the Obama administration engage in a scorched-earth policy that reminds me of the self-centered white flight, the abandonment of public schools, and the proliferation of private schools, that followed the 1954 Brown v. Board of Education decision to desegregate public schools. The very people, like my own rural, working-class family back in East Texas, who stand to gain from the efforts of the Obama administration and the Democratic Congress are, because of their racism, willing to oppose policies that would benefit them the most. Their racism outweighs their own self-interest.
Unfortunately, racists in the United States have learned one valuable lesson since the 1960s: They cannot express their racism directly. In public, they must veil their racial hatred behind policy differences. This obfuscation makes direct confrontation difficult. Anyone pointing out their racist motivations runs the risk of unfairly playing "the race card." But I know what members of my family mean when they say - as so many said during the town hall meetings in August - that they "want their country back." They want it back, safely, in the hands of someone like them, a white person. They feel that a black man has no right to be the president of their country.
During a phone conversation a few weeks after Obama's election, my father lamented that he and my mother might have to stop visiting the casinos in Shreveport , La. : Given Obama's election, "the niggers are already walking around like they own the place. They won't even give up their seats for white women anymore. I don't know what we're going to do with 'em."
My students often ask me how I managed to avoid accepting the lesson in racism offered by my family. From the time I was 4 or 5 years old - roughly the same age as Scout Finch, the narrator of To Kill a Mockingbird - I recall knowing that I didn't agree with racism. More important, my paternal grandmother provided me with the encouragement that I could ignore what I was being taught. She provided me with the courage to resist.
My grandmother hoped that my father and his father represented the last generations of the type of Southern man that had shaped her life - virulently racist, prone to violence, proud of their ignorance, and self-defeatingly stubborn. It was a type of Southern man that she hoped and prayed I could avoid becoming.
However, my father and his father were not the last of their kind; their racial hatred has been passed on. My grandmother, if she were alive, would recognize the same tendencies among many of the people who shout down politicians and bring guns to public rallies. She would also see how the only change they have made is to replace overt racist epithets with more euphemistic language.
Rather than seeing my home state and its racist attitudes, slowly, over time, pulled in the direction of more acceptance, the country as a whole has become more like the South, the racial or cultural equivalent of what is called the Walmartization of American retail.
It might be easy to see literature as impotent in the face of the persistence and adaptability of racism. But I continue to believe in the transformative potential of literature and its ability to provide an alternative view of the world. And for children who are not lucky enough to have grandmothers like mine, I believe that books like To Kill a Mockingbird can provide inoculation against the virus that is racism.
