Supreme Court to hear Chicago gun ban case :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: Metro & Tri-State
Shared via AddThis
Well Mr. Mayor it appears that your precious ban is about to get the boot. Still though, I'm a bit puzzled at how you are going to pay for this costly fight? Oh that's right. I forgot. The taxpayers will pay for this losing fight.
We have a problem with your strategy Mr. Mayor. Your "gun-ban" hasn't worked since its inception in 1982. All it has done, is violated your "law-abiding" citizens right "to keep and bear arms". It also has allowed common criminals, and gang-bangers to get more guns.
Do you see the problem there Mr. Mayor? Well in the event that you don't, just pick up a local newspaper. Or better yet, turn on your computer (that is, if you have one), and read the horror stories of our youth, becoming alarming victims of your ineffective ban.
Here's another problem Mr. Mayor. You are always crying that this city is broke. You make the employees take "forced" days off, yet you somehow find taxpayer money for your Olympic fetish. Now you want too stick us again fighting a losing battle over your "flawed" ban.
Yes Mr. Mayor, your piece of unconstitutional legislation, is flawed. I bet you're chomping at the bit at how that conclusion is made? It's very simple you see. If a criminal can get a gun at the drop of a hat, and law-abiding citizens can't, it's flawed. Did you ever think about that when you ran around Springfield championing this unconstitutional legislation?
I have a more economic solution for you Mr. Mayor. Just "repeal" your unconstitutional ban, and save the taxpayers money. Yet for some strange reason, I'll bet you will never do such a thing. You see, if you're not gouging the taxpayer, you'll never be happy.
In the meantime, criminals will continue to get guns, school children will continue to be in danger, you'll continue your Olympic fetish, and fight this unconstitutional ban at the taxpayers expense.
Mr. Mayor, save us, the taxpayer some time and money for once. Repeal this unconstitutional ban, so the citizens of the City of Chicago can legally protect their children and property.

Nice. The guy still has a job, and isn't in jail. This is another classic example of how this Mayor doesn't care about this city, but just what is his cut.
This is how the city under Daley operates. Let's hire this guy at an alarming pay-scale, and make the people that do the "Real" work, take "forced" days off. By doing such, this soon-to-be jailbird can run around and strong-arm Motorola for kickbacks.
Meanwhile, the Mayor is off to Copenhagen trying to pass-off this city as a great place to hold an Olympic event. Even while kids are being snuffed-out by vicious scum at another alarming rate. The best part, or the term "ironic" about this article, this jerk is a "Public Safety Official". So in essence, instead of doing his job, he'd rather steal.
The moniker of "The City That Works", just doesn't apply here. Unless you are a criminal. Right Mr. Mayor?

Christ almighty, this guy is a day late and major dollars short. This is typical knee-jerk reactionary political grandstanding. This guy knows he doesn't have the union vote, so what does he do? Goes after them (the union) with a guilt by association attack.
I take it Mr. Kirk doesn't care much for the Constitution. Every now and then we have to remind these elected officials, that you just can't single out a group based on false information. Sure some very stupid people worked for ACORN, but they are no longer working. I sure can't say much for his staff for advising him to take on the working people here in Illinois, except that they also seem very stupid.
Now if Mr. Kirk wants to rally the base and exclude unions for doing work with ACORN some several years ago, fine by me. It's just a simple case of discriminating against working class, and poor people. The Republican Party holds such disdain for ACORN because it registers more Democratic, and Independent voters as opposed to Republicans. So naturally they will cry foul for a person or two filling out a registration form with the moniker of "Mickey Mouse". But Mickey never voted. That's a fact Mr. Kirk ignores.
Mr. Kirk's cry in the dark, is nothing more than a pay attention to me whimpering yelp. As true to Republican form, he targets unions which represents working class people. Why do republicans hate people that do the right thing like work and fight to help the poor? Now that seems very stupid. Maybe we should fire him and his staff?

Something is definitely wrong here. You see people, this is what happens when you have corporations, and financial institutions writing our laws. We elect people, regardless of party affiliation, to work, make legislation for us.
The simple logic of possession is 9/10ths of the law doesn't fly here. You buy a light fixture, it's yours. You buy a fence, it's yours. Yet according to the lobbyist that wrote this law, it isn't. God forbid a politician wrote such a law, he'd never get elected again.
So you get duped into a mortgage you can't afford, struggle making payments, lose your job, get sick, or both, and can't take anything in that house that you paid for out of your own pocket. Talk about old-school plundering from the financial institutions. Maybe Chase should change its name to Genghis Khan? Or for that matter, all financial institutions.
One would think that taking your new windows, fencing, and light fixtures a wise move for these former homeowners. I'm not very sure about the toilet though, maybe it's a comfort issue. Yet here's another example of corporations, and institutions writing a law most Americans were never aware of.
The only thing that will put a stop to such laws, is campaign finance reform. It's a simple as that. This is the only way for the people of the United States to have a say in government like we did prior to the takeover by the insurance industry, corporations, and the financial industry. That's a simple plan. Don't elect anyone, ever again, unless they come right out and say they support "We The People" on campaign finance reform.
This is how we should field our candidates from now on. If they oppose campaign finance reform, defeat them at the polls. Doing such, sends a clear message to those institutions that they will never write laws for us again.

Well, well. Seems like someone warned the people about this Mayor, as did many. He leaves town to sign a contract promising to stick it to the taxpayers, after reassuring said taxpayers, he would not stick us with the bill.
Meanwhile, elsewhere in his wonderful city, college students are getting shot, and beaten to death. Yeah that's really going to pack the tourist in Mr. Mayor.
I suppose "win or lose", this will be the "city's defining moment". We have kids that didn't join gangs, or resort to selling drugs to other kids on the streets. They decided to reach higher, and get that degree. This way they could help their families, and friends, and do something good for their communities. Yet this Mayor isn't concerned with their tragic, totally senseless, end of their lives. No, he's too concerned with sticking the taxpayers for an Olympic event many don't want. He's too busy holding a rally, instead of visiting the grieving families, and promising that their killers will be brought to justice.
Yeah, that would be the right thing for this Mayor to do. It's just a shame he's going to party in Copenhagen, as the families must bury these bright shining lights, darkened by murderous, ghouls.

I have a better idea. Bring the people that will be displaced by this event. That will really show the committee how diversity works here.
This Mayor is insane. He should focus on building this city up from within. All he's doing is looking out for himself, and his cronies. A two week event isn't going to improve schools, jobs, police, and fire. All it will do, is divert resources from the people that are in need of better schools, and police.
He refuses to put the hammer down on gangs running rampant all over the city. He orders his Board of Education chief to force teachers to change grades. The police department still to this day is not fully staffed. Yet he wants the Olympics in a city that can't even afford its employee's a five day work week. He sold parking privileges to greed merchants, when all he had to do is raise the rate a quarter or two.
When it comes to showing diversity, this Mayor should bring us, the taxpayer so we can let the committee know, no matter the race, he screwed us all.

Don't excuse the sweeping indictment here. This is nothing more than all the nut-cases, racist, paranoid, fear-mongering losers showing all the sane people in this country, how serious they need mental health services.
I'm not going to apologize for what I stated above, because it's true. In the reality-based sane world, there is no rational justification for this run for guns and ammunition. Here's why. Each state has its own gun laws in-place. Whatever the federal legislature comes up with, will only address criminals getting their slimy hands on such weapons. Ask yourself, what purpose would an AK-47 serve in your home with children?
You can thank the National Rifle Association, (NRA)the Republican Party, and some Democrats (Blue Dogs in particular) for yelling fire in a crowded movie theater, frightening the already loose-hinged people in this country. If you don't believe that, just look at what the insurance industry, and republican party did to scare seniors, and overweight unhealthy people during the health care debate.
Let me reiterate. These are nothing more than nut-jobs, racist, and paranoid, fear-mongering losers. They have nothing, nothing in a sane rational world for justification for these actions. They never have, and they never will. They will certainly need mental health consultation's when one of their children are hurt, God forbid dead, from their own irrational, irresponsible behavior.

Here we go again. Another fancy game plan for redistricting. This slick little call for reform doesn't benefit the people of the State of Illinois. It simply benefits the politician.
Here's a great idea Senator. How about "Pure" campaign finance reform, with "Term Limits". Doing this, keeps the "People" in power so politicians like yourself, will never consolidate power over us. That means no more money from corporations, just the people. And speaking frankly, 10 years is enough time for a politician to disrespect their constituents. How about 8 and out? You know, run for something else after your 8. That way, we the people will know if any of you are deserving for higher office.
You see, the problem with your plan is that it is "Agenda-Driven". This is a term the voters just do not like. It does not help the people, because it is directed at serving politicians. Come up with a plan that serves the people. Let us for once, have a ballot initiative for term limits, and campaign finance reform.
Now that sounds like something the people would want. Even though you politicians don't. Remember Senator, times are changing.

They have been doing this for over 25 years. Who is the alderman/woman there? And why are these people still allowed to work for the city? Who knows how many neighborhoods have drank a little contaminated water because of these louts.
Well this just goes to show everyone in the City of Chicago how much your elected officials care. You can almost here them now doing their backroom deals. Just give us some money from time to time, and we will turn a blinds-eye on everything. Once you get caught, we will fake outrage. Hell, we'll even fake outrage when you implicate us, just so we can us more taxpayer money to keep us out of jail.

Hindsight is truly a mother, isn't it? The sad part about this story, is there is nothing that can be done about it. This guy does a 12 year stretch, and still pockets money.
The victims of his crime spree should be able to sue, shouldn't they? And if they can't, this is a major miscarriage of justice. Hey Mr. Mayor, can you talk to your law department and see what can be done? Or doing the right thing isn't your style?
The even sadder part, we still have so many convicted persons getting pensions while they sit behind bars. Something must be done. Now we know some of the things that impact budgets. Wow, must be nice getting that money, even while behind bars.

Boy I sure wish I could say that for my city of Chicago. Hell just yesterday (Friday), I saw a group of unruly, totally unkempt teen-age girls, on a mini rampage across the street from my home.
There was pushing and shoving, screaming and yelling between this rowdy group of about 10 or 15 girls. Naturally it was an after-school thing, maybe an argument over a boy. Yet my first thought wasn't about the unruly, un-educated behavior, it was simply, where were the parents?
One possibility, maybe they were at work. Another, maybe they just didn't care. The ultimate kicker for all this ruckus, a church is right across the street from where the commotion took place. It's a shame when your own religious leaders refuse to set these kids straight. Today they (the church) are having a little shindig in their parking lot. Playing music, chatting, and carrying on like nothing happened.
The police soon arrived, and got the unruly, unkempt teen-age girls under control and properly dispersed them. Heaven knows they already have their hands full with our crumb-bum Mayor letting criminals have access to guns.
All in all, it seems those parents should have made those knot-heads do their homework before letting them loose on the streets to show they didn't learn a damn thing at school yesterday.

Now here's an article I can agree with. Talk about big time discrimination, years ago I was laid off from a job, for the simple reason that I was single. Boy, if I knew a lawyer then. Yes, that's right people, laid off because I was single. In favor of a newly married, less experienced, person.
For some strange reason, singles are always the scapegoat. It doesn't matter what a single person preference is, they will always get the short end of the stick. It doesn't matter how much on the job experience a single person has. They will always get the short end of the stick. Yet we remain the shoulder to cry on for married people.
We do our jobs, pay our taxes, and only ask for some respect. But do we get it? No. We are the ones called into work on holidays and weekends, because some married slub, wants to go partying at some event.
Yep, this is a good article pointing out how we the single people of the United States continue to get the shaft by married slubs. The next time you come see us crying about your partner, we will not be there because we had to work your shift.
Think about that.

It's amazing how some acts or proclamations come back to bite you right in the rear-end. A little over a month ago, our superintendent wanted, or called for, the city's law department to fight lawsuits as opposed to just settling them.
Well with this situation, captured on video no less, makes that argument, or proclamation a tad bit difficult. Beating a bus driver to the point of unconsciousness is a pretty violent act for an off duty police officer. Just thank the heavens the jerk didn't shoot the driver.
Oh well, what else can you do other than sue the jerk, and the department that hired him. Welcome to Cook County Jail officer. Just think of the charges that may be filed against you. Assault, aggravated assault and battery, hell attempted murder for that matter because you came back and beat the driver some more. Makes you wonder what was really your intent?
Yes superintendent, fight those lawsuits. Just make sure they are not all on video. My, my, times sure have changed. Instantaneous communications are hell to fight in court.

I saw this article yesterday on the AP and shared it on facebook and twitter. I have no problem with an investigation on any entity doing shady dealings, but I do have a problem with a double standard.
If you scream and yell for an investigation on this organization, you may as well call for the same on those republican officials at C street. You remember those guys? The ones having adulterous affairs. They practically ran the place like a brothel. And they also have the audacity to pervert religion, and duck paying taxes.
This isn't a tit for tat scenario. This is only fair. Investigate the pimps at C street along with ACORN. Why are politicians getting a religious exemption at this place? Why are they perverting God's word? They claim the rich and powerful are the "chosen ones", and have the audacity to even use Hitler as an example. These are the same pimps that brought us the "prayer breakfast". I thought there is a clause somewhere on separation of church and state?
Yes people, let's be fair. Let's look into all shady organizations, businesses, religious institutions, and any other entity that scams, and rips off the people. This is not the time for "selective memory". Remember, what's good for the goose? So I say let's get together and call the Congress to get someone at the Justice Department to look also into the pimps at C street. I bet you Fox news will not like that.

Funny this Mayor didn't have a problem throwing us (taxpayers) under the bus when he sought out this deal. Now he's losing money because the people knew this firm was a rip-off from the beginning.
Daley has some nerve telling them to get their act together and "synchronize" the time on their cheat-boxes. After all, he sold us out to this company. So they can pretty much tell him to take a hike, like we will next election cycle.
"They have to void those tickets". Damn right Mr. Mayor. Bet that must put a dent in your pension plan huh?

Call it an early Monday gift. But this guy is just amazing. He may as well laugh all the way to the bank after sticking it good to the residents here.
Talk about hubris. The residents are upset because of the economy? Give me a break. We are upset because you Mr. Mayor, let the gangs run wild on our tax paid streets. We are upset because you sold us out to greed merchants just to park a vehicle. And by the way, when was the last time our police and fire personnel received a raise? And why did only ONE, yes One person make over $20,000.00 in March working the phones at the dispatch center, yet you make the people at Streets and Sanitation take a day off? And for the love of God, why do you think we can hold an Olympic event, when kids are getting shot on a daily basis?
Oh sorry, that's why your laughing. You did it, and got away with it. Man I can't wait for that next election to roll around, because I'm curious who will run against you. That is, if you are not under indictment by then.
Keep laughing, I hear it's good for you.

I have to ask, where were these people eight (8) years ago? Last time I checked there was no concern, or march over the last administrations record spending spree.
This mob-action is nothing more than an excuse for a sore loser rally. They show their non-impressive selective memory skills by ignoring the true facts of what their party (GOP), did too this country.
If this isn't the ultimate double standard, I'm truly at a loss for rational explanation. Not one peep out of them when the previous administration lost pallets of money in Iraq. Not a peep out of them when they let the banks, and Wall Street loot this country to the brink of collapse. And what about those disgusting signs they wave so happily about? This doesn't look like a very Christian thing if you ask me.
Is it about the race of the president that has them so up in arms? From the signs they bandy about, one might take that as the reason. Could it possibly be because of his race, they have so conveniently forgot who brought about reckless spending?
It sure seems that way for myself.

Let's get serious here and call a spade a spade. This is nothing more than disrespect for the office of the president. No more, no less. Ask yourself, how many walked out when the previous president LIED to them about Iraq? Zip. That includes republicans and democrats.
The bottom line here, the people that elected this person should be very ashamed. They did not send him to Washington to be disrespectful. They sent him there to work on their behalf. Obviously, he forgot that part and let his personal feelings get in the way of mature thought process. The even largest disappointment, he's unrepentant. So here's an idea. The next time he comes home on vacation, on our dime, and he wants to hold a "Town-Hall", let's walk out on him. And while we are at it, let's walk out on him at the polls and elect someone that has our interest at heart.
It's already bad enough we have another unrepentant, arrogant, only thinking of himself jack hole calling the president a lie, but now we the people of Illinois have to hang our heads in shame because of this numb-skull.

Ha. You have to love this story. People, some, are finally coming to their senses when they realize the revenue potential of marijuana.
It's small movements like these across the country, that will finally make the States and Federal government reconsider their hypocritical positions on legalizing marijuana.
Folks we are talking BILLIONS of dollars a year in revenue for States, who by the way are almost crippled by the greed merchants, and corrupt politicians siphoning funds from us, the tax payers.
Think about what States could do with such funds. Hire more police, fire, teachers, doctors, nurses, EMT's, and many, many other jobs. All that is needed, is someone that will run the programs right. If this city (Chicago) ever legalizes marijuana, please, please, keep those funds away from our Mayor.
I love stories like this. Times are definitely changing.

Vindictive? One might think the question that should have been asked, is why it took so long to get the drug dealer out in the first place? Once the owners have been notified that something shady was going on in their building, one would think of confronting the accused.
Here's what doesn't square with me. The raid went down in May. The neighbor informed the husband in June. Why did it take so long to get an eviction notice in August? Where were the owners in May? Why were they not informed before, during, and after the raid in May?
Yes folks, that's a lot of questions that should have been asked. In the meantime, has anyone interviewed the drug dealer? The owners claimed they did a background check on the person. I wonder what his take is on all this.

All the money he has stuffed away, this guy still managed to screw the people he's supposed to represent. The sad part about this story, is that's not bad enough he's screwed the taxpayers, he's even afraid of the very people in his own neighborhood.
This really speaks volumes of the indifference our own government has shown its constituents. Instead of demonstrating responsibility, and becoming a pillar in the community, this guy builds a fence "longer than a football field", to isolate himself from his constituents. He (Burke) should be out there educating, and helping these wayward kids just "hanging out" behind his home.
The paper calls him "one of the city's most powerful politicians". Yet he's afraid of kids. What a world, what a dunce. We want our money back Alderman, and get involved in your neighborhood, instead of sealing yourself in.

Oh you have got to be kidding me? Come on now, has it really come down to this? What the hell Mayor Daley. You can't even pull a pitcher playing a friendly game of baseball these days without some moron pulling a gun and shooting a coach.
I'll even bet anyone the gun was obtained illegally. By the way, why would you bring a gun to a baseball game anyway? So much for your successful hand gun ban Mr. Mayor.
Each and everyday I read the paper an see someone shot here, and shot there. Young and old, it doesn't matter to these criminals. All we know is that they have the guns. They have the illegally obtained guns that you banned in this city.
Kind of makes you fear for old Lou and Ozzie Mr. Mayor. Here's an idea. Resign Mr. Mayor. Everything you touch is never good for this city. Hell I just may even vote for a republican next time around. At least they don't do anything for the people, just corporations. Oh wait, so do you.

You have to find it strange, that you can't get a republican anywhere, to denounce anyone of their supporters for calling, or comparing this president to Hitler. Yet, when someone calls a "spade a spade", like Van Jones, he's dragged through the mud as a devil's advocate.
Of all the people that called for his resignation, we should also call for them to denounce, and distance themselves from their racist, fear-mongering supporters. Mike Pence is the definition of an extremist, with all the negative, racially-tinged comments he's made. And do I have to mention Glenn Beck, and what he called the president? Funny that guy still has a job. Yet Mr. Jones calls it right down the middle, and has to resign.
Talk about your double standards. Where's the accountability for racist preachers screaming for the president to die? Glenn Beck calling the president a racist, and need I mention Rush and his infatuation of grabbing his ankles?
If there is a God, you Christians (so you claim) are really going to need some major help, trying to justify that double standard. "Have you no shame"?

Okay, this one has to go in the WTF category. The police found all this stuff, and let the man out on a small bond? A $100 bond? WTF.
You would think calling the feds would be a top priority after finding an anti-tank launcher. But not these officers. They might as well laugh all the way to the station with the offender, joking that this is really no big deal, and you'll be out in an hour.
Man, I would hate to be the Chief of police for those two departments, let alone the brain-dead officers that carried out the first search. Then again, a $100 bond for an anti-tank launcher, sounds like a good deal. At least they will give you a chance to skip town before the "REAL" law enforcement officials get wind of it.

I must admit, this is truly a different approach. Some might even deem it strange. Nevertheless, the only thing to do is sit back and review the results.
The curious part of this article is the comments section. Many are giving this new CEO the benefit of the doubt. And some have even , eloquently I must say, pointed to some missing objectives.
In all honesty, identifying kids that "might get shot" is a bit gruesome. Yet I have to agree with some of the commentators on the gangs outside of the schools. That is where the real problems reside. All in all, it is a different approach.
Let's just hope it works.

Wow. They must of hid the drug dealers, and all the other sordid ilk when these blind mice visited. Kudos to the Mayor for hiding the homeless, the unemployed, and the drop-outs, to con the Olympic visitors into thinking this would be a great place to hold such an event.
Since they were not impressed with our wind, form of transportation, and "tight construction deadlines", I say now you know how we feel.
I'm pleased to see many fellow Chicagoan's coming to their senses and dropping their support for this ridiculous adventure by the Mayor. This city doesn't need such a distraction when we have kids and young adults killing one another. Teachers being forced to fudge grades, in order to get funding, and selling parking meters to greed merchants, instead of just raising parking fares to a reasonable level.
I hope the next Mayor gets it right.

Sounds like the Mayor doesn't want anyone else cutting into his pie. The chairman should know better then to cross the boss, but he's standing firm that his hand-picked cronies get their $300,000, for doing absolutely nothing.
Let me get this right. People actually pay others such hefty salaries for "planning" activities? If that's the case, block party committees are getting short changed.
Regardless, you have to just love this Mayor. He claims he would rather see "more people working", then pay these "planners". Here's a simple solution, since you want "more people working". Drop the Olympic bid, and use the money to hire more police. Makes sense, doesn't it?
The bottom line here, you can't tell us that you can't do it. You are the Mayor and from what we've seen, you pretty much do what you want.

Oh really? This may be the shortest investigation ever. Now let's see, who took control of the Chicago Public Schools? The Mayor of course. So all he has to do is take a look in the mirror.
Those orders to play fast and loose with the grades had to come from somewhere. Now who could that be? I got it. The people HE appointed to run the schools. Now what did I do with that Inspector General? Oh darn, that's right, I making him run for the Senate. Too bad though. I bet he would have loved to get knee-deep in this probe.
Oh wait, I forgot, I would not let him investigate that. It just might come back and bite me where the Sun doesn't shine.
Oh Mr. Mayor, you really know how to keep it real. NOT
