Growth of online learning in Chicago schools draws cheers, worries - chicagotribune.com

Growth of online learning in Chicago schools draws cheers, worries - chicagotribune.com

I can understand the concerns some may have for this developing technology. It (just leaping here) may signal the extinction of teachers, and physical classrooms as we know it.

Naturally when you have elected officials and their bureaucratic cronies wasting taxpayer money, i.e. Huberman and his taxpayer-funded auto's. When in fact, he's making enough to buy his own, try anything to figure out ways to tackle these bloated, on life support budgets.

There will always be drawbacks, or shortcomings with any up and coming technology. But once all the bugs get worked out, they tend to take flight. With that flight, many get left behind. Just ask a neanderthal, if you can find one.

Daley seeks to privatize Taste of Chicago, other services :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: City Hall

Daley seeks to privatize Taste of Chicago, other services :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: City Hall

Nothing to see here folks. Same old shell game by our Mayor. If the "Taste" gets privatized, expect higher prices.

And that goes for any other "City service" he wishes selling to the highest bidder. Service will suffer because these "Private Companies" will pay workers a lower wage. Nothing like a disgruntled worker leaving trash on the curbside, or in the parks. Just a thought Mr. Mayor. Make sure that whomever gets these contracts, have that "Living Wage" clause. And make them honor it.

2 seized, 2,000 pot plants torched :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: Chicago Crime

2 seized, 2,000 pot plants torched :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: Chicago Crime

I love this quote:

"No. 1, they are not going to forfeit their home like if they grew it in their backyard," he said. "It's a cash crop. You have a source of land and water -- that's what you need for a cash crop."

Well there you have it elected officials. Yesterday's news informed the people of Colorado, that medicinal marijuana shops are helping the state get a grip on its budget. Illinois needs a ballot initiative like California, and other states that have similar initiatives. It's time for the legislature to act.

It truly is a cash crop. Even Albert Einstein was against making marijuana illegal. That alone should tell you something.

City is running out of would-be cops :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: City Hall

City is running out of would-be cops :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: City Hall

I'm at a cross road on this one. If you have a degree in criminal justice, shouldn't that be enough? So I would do away with the "Testing" and save the city some money.

If a person went to college, and majored in criminal justice, why would they have to take a "test"? That's insulting to that individual. Ditch the exam Mr. Mayor, and use the open application process. Just make sure that all the applicants have at-least, as a minimum, an associates degree in criminal justice.

303 shootings in July is typical for Chicago - chicagotribune.com

303 shootings in July is typical for Chicago - chicagotribune.com

"Typical" is just totally unacceptable. From this perspective, that is a mind-numbing statistic. The only thing that can be done, that will ensure those numbers keep declining, is for our legislature, and judicial system to get tougher sentencing guidelines on the books, for those that commit crimes with guns.

Be a good neighbor -- and help fight crime :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: Easy

Be a good neighbor -- and help fight crime :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: Easy

I must admit this is an interesting article. In some communities, things like this do work. But in others, especially when the local church doesn't even show one ounce of interest, asides from just pocketing worshipers money from the collection plate, and rent, what does a community do?

I'll leave that question open for any of you that read this little rant. Just take a drive through particular neighborhoods. Notice the churches, and the people just standing around, or near them doing what they do best. You know, drinking, or selling dope. The church must become that "Nosy Neighbor". I say that because many of these teens, and younger men have a high probability of not knowing, or being raised by a father figure. With that, no discipline is instilled in these youngsters. That is where the church, mosque, temple, or synagogue must transform into the nosy neighbor. People look to these institutions for leadership. Some are showing it, others, not so much.

I'm going to let that statement marinate on you.

ACLU sues to block law making it illegal to record cops :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: Metro & Tri-State

ACLU sues to block law making it illegal to record cops :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: Metro & Tri-State

If ever there was a more dumber law, this just might be it. Last time I checked, the police work for us!

We have every right to observe, record, and videotape if need be, the activities of law enforcement officers carrying out their duties. I'm curious how this law "Slid" pass constitutional scrutiny? If your jobs motto is "Serve and Protect", who is that for? The Cook County States Attorney should be ashamed that such a law even exist on the books, and do everything within her power for its removal.

I'm not sorry for this little rant. We the people have every right to protect ourselves from those few "Bad Apples" that patrol our streets. If Old Man Burge doesn't ring a bell, I don't what else can be said. They are hired, and sworn to serve and protect us. If they think it's a good idea to violate our rights, and we have no other recourse, for proving such an isolated incident, what's the point of trusting them?

I'm all for good cops on our streets. They do a dangerous job that the average citizen would possibly never consider. But whomever thought making this a law, is beyond idiotic. If I see a cop pulling a "Rodney King", I'm going to catch it on video, and upload it.

Remember, you work for us.

Mayor Daley offers new plan for high-speed O'Hare-Loop rail :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: Transportation

Mayor Daley offers new plan for high-speed O'Hare-Loop rail :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: Transportation

As long as it doesn't become like the Parking Meter Fiasco, this project isn't a bad idea.

The only concern I have for such things of this nature is any cost-cutting measures that may impact safety. One only needs to look at the coal mining, and oil industry for evidence.

But then again, this little brain fart from the Mayor just might be feasible.

Daley criticized over memo saying police not writing enough tickets :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: City Hall

Whoops! Every person living in a city, suburb, village, and small town is very much aware, that police departments across the nation have a "Ticket Quota", that must be met. This only clinches it.

The Business of Buds: Why Marijuana Prices May Head Lower

The Business of Buds: Why Marijuana Prices May Head Lower

This may sound like good news for "Stoner's" and patients, but it's nothing more then the old "Supply and Demand" economics. You can bet the house, once legalization is passed, prices will go up as supplies dwindle because of the demand.

Asides from that, this will be an engine for local and state governments to get their budgets in-order. You just can't argue with billions of dollars in extra revenue. Pot was criminalize due to greed by the "Tree Barons". They used the same propaganda tactics we see being used today. FEAR and Misinformation. So for the folks out there reading this little piece, do yourself a favor, get informed. Research why pot was criminalized, study the comparisons of alcohol, and pot in accident related data. You will be surprised to find the almost negative results for pot.

My only problem is the people that manipulate this plant that has been around since the beginning of time, as we know it. They look for ways to produce a more powerful potency level, and that isn't always a good thing. The ancients didn't need to do that because they studied its beneficial use for medicinal value.

With that being said, I urge all State legislatures, and the people, to push for "Ballot Initiatives" across the country, and legalize marijuana. It will help your budgets once you tax the hell out of it, like you do cigarettes, and booze.

Shooting violence hits NW Side corner twice in a week :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: Chicago Crime

Shooting violence hits NW Side corner twice in a week :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: Chicago Crime

Meanwhile one of the punks that shot the little girls jumping rope has been caught. The ultimate irony in that case is, the punk already had a prior conviction, and was given a slap on the wrist by our judicial system. Yeah that's right folks, he walked with 2 years probation for possessing an illegally obtained firearm. That my friends should have been automatic incarceration as an adult.

Enough said.

Kirk tries to link Giannoulias to Saddam Hussein :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: Politics

Kirk tries to link Giannoulias to Saddam Hussein :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: Politics

Wow! Talk about scraping the proverbial bottom of the barrel.

This guy really needs to do himself a favor and just drop out of this race. Kirk has not presented one plan for helping this State. All he has done is just bad-mouth his opponent. Not one policy plan from this guy people. Nothing but my opponent is this, and that. How does that help the State of Illinois? We the people of this State should have our collective heads examined if this No Plan Man is elected. Someone should inform him that this is a Leadership position, not the sandlot at some elementary school. If this is all he can do, please take your ball and go home. I can guarantee you Kirk, you will not be missed.

I can't wait for the infamous Adolph comparison once you see this low-blow, disgusting attempt fails. You might as well use it, since you have already failed at presenting any ideas on Helping this State. I take it he also hiding those weapons of mass destruction in his pocket? Yep, keep scraping the bottom of the barrel Kirk. Who knows, something just might stick on the wall.

Some of you may find this a little tough for swallowing, but this is the Republican Parties "Wet Dream".

They always scream about "Our children, and Grandchildren, being saddled with debt..." yet consistently look for ways of increasing the "Gap" between rich and poor. Well look no further then Japan. This is the Republican party playbook for what they think is how to run an economy.

What has the Bush tax cuts done? It has increased the "Gap" between rich and poor. Now we have these heartless politicians having the audacity to call for extending such tax cuts. That is nothing more then shear insanity. They have said the unemployed are lazy, on dope, and don't deserve the benefits that they "Paid" into a system. Yet they wish to continue giving tax cuts for a class of people that don't need them.

They are not interested in any kids future. If you don't believe that, just listen at the disdain for working, and unemployed families that spew from their mouths.

Mayor to tap federal funds for more police overtime :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: City Hall

Mayor to tap federal funds for more police overtime :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: City Hall

More turd polishing! Hey Mr. Mayor! What ever happened to those "Beat Patrol Officers" you promised as your "New Community Policing Effort" about oh, I don't know, 10 years ago?

Remember that little gem Mayor? Well since then you had a brand new police department built right down the alley from me, you know the one on Madison Avenue. And I have not seen one, count them Mayor, not one officer on foot. And you want to know the kicker? You have punks selling dope not even a half a block away. Imagine them running like a wild heard of buffalo once they see two cops on foot, coming towards them? Well that isn't going to happen because you Mr. Mayor, dropped the ball on that promise.

As a matter of fact, I haven't seen you anywhere near that police department after it opened. Something wrong?

Chicago's top cop wants city to know that despite recent violence, crime is down in city. - chicagotribune.com

Chicago's top cop wants city to know that despite recent violence, crime is down in city. - chicagotribune.com

I understand how hard it can become when one undertakes the task of polishing this particular turd. But the bottom line remains, the gangs are the ones out of control with "Illegal" weapons at their disposal.

Only, and until this problem gets the required attention that legislators, law enforcement, and all of these County, and States Attorney's, it will continue. There has to be a zero tolerance measure enacted for these gang members, and the sellers of such weapons. They don't have the luxury like law-abiding citizens, of jumping through hoops for the right to legally own a firearm. Fix that first! For crying out loud, we the people know this. What's your problem? The gangs don't care until they get caught. And then again, some of them still don't. So stop making it so easy for them to have better access to firearms, as opposed to your law abiding citizens.

It's not rocket science either. Any "Known Gang Member" getting caught with an illegal weapon, should get an automatic 20 years. That's not close to cruel, and unusual. That's justice because the person is, and was, up too no good. Stop coddling them with slaps on the wrist like probation, and that pitiful 1st time offender crap. They are involved in a criminal enterprise. Treat them as such.

Stop polishing the turd, and get those weapons out of their hands.

Ozzie Guillen Rips Major League Baseball for Treatment of Latino Players

Ozzie Guillen Rips Major League Baseball for Treatment of Latino Players

I may not be a White Sox fan, but I've always appreciated anyone that speaks the truth.

Naturally, Major League Baseball will jump all over Ozzie for speaking the truth, which will not make them look any better by fining a man for telling it like it is. But in reality, Bud and his crew don't care. As for Ozzie, keep speaking the truth.

As for the White Sox players, you still suck! Cubs Forever!
