Marijuana initiative could make or break Obama in Colorado

Marijuana initiative could make or break Obama in Colorado

Mr. President, it is time for the proverbial reality check. You and I smoked the stuff years ago. We do not anymore, nor did we have to go into rehab just to quit. You, like myself, continued our educational pursuits, and with mixed results, you became President of The United States, while I am on permanent disability from an injury from my last job. Smoking pot wasn't the reason for our paths in life. It was only a recreational phase for us both.

We both know that the marijuana laws on the books were placed there from unfounded fear, and lobbying by the timber lords during the 1930's, and became the law of the land in 1936. Now when we cover all that data from that time period up to now, we see that marijuana posed no threat then, and no threat now. Well, the only threat it poses now, is the prolific incarceration rates of young people. Particularly, people of color. These incarcerations inhibit those people of continuing educational, vocational, and employment opportunities. This, we both know, is a fact.

With that said Mr. President, let's tamp-down on the raids. How about you treat this matter like you instructed the Justice Department on the Defense of Marriage Act? You, and I both know that cigarettes, and booze are more dangerous then a joint or two will ever be.

Pot can be taxed and regulated just like the more dangerous cigarettes and booze. Employers can keep the same rules in effect they have today. Think about that for a second. People can see and smell when a person has been smoking, or drinking no matter how much they try and mask it. So let's chill on the raids, and let people have some weekend, recreational phases.
