Prisons not the answer to crime problems: Attorney General :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: Politics

Prisons not the answer to crime problems: Attorney General :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: Politics

Shared via AddThis

Well it appears the New Attorney General knows something the last one did not. The previous administration's only interest/concern dealt with corporations, not the people. If any entity made money, you were on their radar.

Eric Holder cuts right through the chase. If you reduce spending on schools, police, social services, and other resources vital to community development, you will see a rise in crime. Just spending funds on building more, and more prisons, will never be the only solution.

Building more prisons is nothing more than out-sourcing funds and jobs that are sorely needed for the above mentioned resources. Prisons original function served to incarcerate murderers, rapist, robbers, kidnappers, hard-core drug dealers, and others of ill-repute. They were never designed for "pot-smokers".

Just look what happened when they banned booze. They had to repeal it. So again, I say, decriminalize marijuana, and tax it like cigarettes. Cities and states will generate billions in new revenue. These new found funds can and will put more police on the streets, more teachers in schools, build better schools, improve social services, and most importantly, add more jobs vital in these sorely needed communities.
